Press Reviews

Album „Land Feet First“ from 2011 „

The second album by guitarist Uli Brodersen with ten elegant instrumental numbers between jazz and pop. Already at the tender age of 14, Uli Brodersen literally soaked up the music of greats such as Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Lee Ritenour, later discovering rock virtuosos such as Joe Satriani for himself.

He completed his studies at the CMCN in Nancy with ‘summa cum laude’, a second one in the Netherlands as the best of his year, before gaining live experience throughout Europe in the band of Debbie Sledge (of Sister Sledge). In 2008, the time was ripe for the first solo album by the sought-after lecturer for jazz / funk / fusion guitar, who also works for the German Music Council – ‘The Journey’ was enthusiastically received by the trade press and the public. It should be no different with ‘Land Feet First’, because once again Uli Brodersen shines with crystal-clear, melodic playing between jazz and pop, actively supported by a squad of accomplished studio musicians.

„Take influences from pop and world music and mix them on the jazz guitar. The result you get is the guitar play of the German guitarist Uli Brodersen. I didn’t know about him until now. This is his first album, his debut from 2008. Seven songs were recorded, among them only one cover. The rest were original compositions by Uli. Some of the tracks can be heard on radio stations around the world. Uli’s sound reminds me of George Benson’s play. After the easy going title track, Uli tackles ‘Four on Six’ by Wes Montgomery. This one’s a bit more up-tempo. The other tracks are more smooth jazz oriented, and Uli composes interesting melodies. Nice work!“

PATRICK VAN DE WIELE, SMOOTHJAZZ.EU, 07/2012

„Not quite rock or roll but you have to buy this if you love great guitarplaying“

ROCK`N ROLL REPORTER 11/2012

„Die elektronischen Sounds von Keyboarder Denis Cosmar und Gitarrist Uli Brodersen sind die Gewürze des Menüs. . . .

Bio 🇺🇸

Uli Brodersen’s biography provides a comprehensive overview of the life and musical career of the German jazz guitarist. Brodersen started playing guitar at the age of seven and received a solid musical education. During his youth, he played both classical and electric guitar, exploring various music styles from pop to hard rock. His passion for jazz was ignited by Wes Montgomery’s album „While We’re Young“. He later studied jazz guitar under jazz legends like Heiner Franz and Louis Stewart, and continued his studies in France and at the “ARTEZ Conservatory” in the Netherlands, where he graduated with honors.

Since the beginning of his professional career, Brodersen has worked with various artists both in the studio and on stage. He has conducted clinics for music brands such as DVMARK and IBANEZ, and was influenced in his musical direction by the works of Ronny Jordan and Chuck Loeb. Brodersen has released two CDs as a bandleader: „The Journey“ (2008) and „Land Feet First“ (2011), as well as a CD as co-leader of the trio Lancirama (2013). His music, a blend of jazz, funk, and R&B, features fluid jazz guitar playing over modern grooves.

Since 2018, he has been closely working with smooth jazz pianist Amandus. During the pandemic, Brodersen decided to focus more on his own musical identity and began intensively producing his own music. In January 2024, his new smooth jazz single „South of Summer“ will be released in collaboration with SmoothJazz.com, followed by an EP later in 2024.
